Open Farm Sunday 2025, held on Sunday 8th June, was the UK’s flagship annual celebration of British farming, managed by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) since 2006. This year’s event featured 270 host farms across England, Scotland, and Wales—a 20% increase on last year—welcoming approximately 200,000 visitors.

The event offered a diverse range of activities including tractor rides, farm walks, machinery demonstrations, livestock tours, children’s activities, local food stalls, and heritage craft displays. These hands-on experiences helped deepen public understanding of where food comes from and showcased how farmers work in harmony with nature.

Key themes this year centered on sustainability, climate change, food security, and youth engagement. LEAF research highlighted that 46% of Gen Z would consider a career in farming, reflecting growing interest among young people to learn about agriculture. Open Farm Sunday provided an invaluable platform to bridge the knowledge gap with face-to-face conversations and real farm visits.

Media outreach, including coverage on BBC Radio 4’s The Archers and BBC Breakfast, played a crucial role in increasing host farms and visitor numbers, helping build trust in British food and farming. Participating farms ranged from urban city farms like Spitalfields City Farm in London to large estates like Leckford Estate in Hampshire.

Open Farm Sunday continues to inspire, educate, and strengthen the bond between the public and the farming community. The next event is scheduled for Sunday, 7th June 2026.
