Gujarat farmer Shilpa Patel wins ‘Spudwoman of India’ at the first HyFarm Paathshala Convocation for managing 45 acres of potatoes and inspiring women in agriculture.
Shilpa Patel Named ‘Spudwoman of India’ for Leading 45 Acres of Potato Farming and Inspiring Women in Agriculture

At the first-ever HyFarm Paathshala Convocation held on September 20, 2025, one story stood out — the journey of Shilpa Patel, a farmer from Gujarat who was honoured with the title of “Spudwoman of India.”
Patel, the only woman in the graduating batch, independently manages 45 acres of potato cultivation without shortcuts or external hand-holding. Her achievement reflects courage, grit, and determination, challenging the perception that farming is a male-dominated field.
The title “Spudwoman of India” goes beyond Patel herself, symbolizing the rising role of women in agriculture and their potential to lead transformative change.
HyFarm Paathshala, through its programs, aims to create ecosystems where women farmers are not just participants but pioneers in the sector.
Organizers emphasized that India’s agricultural future depends on empowering more women like Patel, whose resilience and leadership represent a significant step toward driving exponential growth in the farming industry.
