Elea PEF Chip Day 2025: Experience the Future of Potato Chip Production with Pulsed Electric Field Technology

Elea Technology GmbH is opening its doors on 9 th October 2025 for the Elea PEF Chip Day 2025, welcoming potato chip producers and food industry professionals from across the globe to its headquarters in Quakenbrück, Germany. Taking place just one day after this year’s Anuga trade show in Cologne, the event will offer a comprehensive look into the latest innovations in Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) processing for potato chips.

Revolutionizing Chip Production with PEF
PEF is a non-thermal food processing method that uses short bursts of high voltage to create pores in the cell membranes of plant and animal tissues – a process known as electroporation. This structural change improves mass transport within the tissue and enables significant improvements in product quality and production efficiency.
For the potato industry, PEF offers numerous advantages including up to 50 % reduced cutting force and increasing knife durability. The improved cutting leads to a reduction in fat uptake and prevents starch leakage into the processing water, improving production yield as well as the texture of the final product. The technology is already well known and established in the potato industry and continues to evolve as producers seek more efficient production methods.

System Launch, AI Innovation & Industry Insights
A major highlight of the day will be the official launch of Elea’s latest system, the PEF Advantage B Micro. With a maximum throughput of 1.7 tonnes per hour, this compact, all- in-one system — combining generator and treatment belt — is ideal for small to medium- sized producers. Larger-scale processors won’t be left out, as Elea will also present its broader portfolio of high-capacity systems. Adding real-world perspective to the program, industry guests will take the stage to share their firsthand experiences with PEF and Elea’s systems in potato chip production.
After a networking lunch, the afternoon will feature live technology demonstrations. A standout moment will be the demonstration of PiCon, Elea’s latest inline quality control solution that uses AI-supported acoustic signals to monitor PEF-treated products in real time.

Participants who have indicated interest during registration will also have the chance to take part in individual one-on-one sessions with Elea experts to discuss specific needs, ideas, and product testing opportunities.
The day will conclude with a relaxed evening dinner at a nearby venue, held under the theme “Chip & Sip: A Scotch whisky tasting.” An opportunity for a relaxed dinner paired with an engaging single malt tasting – hosted by native Scot and whisky specialist Dave Allardice.
Additional Testing on 10 th October for those wishing to explore PEF even further, Elea is offering two additional product testing slots on 10 th October 2025. These sessions allow participants to trial PEF technology using their own raw materials in a controlled environment. Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
