A new potato processing plant is being built in the Cherkasy region by “Potato Agro,” set to produce both fries and potato flour, reports agronews.ua.

The facility is already under construction, and some of the equipment has been delivered to the farm. The processing capacity will be approximately 150-180 thousand tons per year.

Olga Lonska, the director of Potato Agro LLC:

"In the State Register of Ukraine for seed material for potato fries, there are only 2-3 varieties. Currently, we are trying to select other varieties that will undergo testing to understand if they will grow in our fields."

"Almost no one in Ukraine is engaged in growing potatoes for fries production, so we decided to acquire this experience. Of course, we are not doing this alone but involving colleagues, the Ukrainian Potato Producers Association."

Lonska also noted that part of this year’s harvest will be processed into a dry mixture (potato flour). The new processing line for this product is expected to begin operations in early 2026.
