Ahmedabad-based HyFarm, a vertical of the HyFun Group, has launched a first-of-its-kind farm school designed to take knowledge out of classrooms and into the fields where farmers work. It has now honoured the farmers at a unique event held in Ahmedabad during the weekend at a unique convocation ceremony.

Acknowledging the farmers who came forward to join the company’s pilot Paathshala project, in which farmers combine traditional practices with modern technology to reduce costs and improve quality, HyFarm declared that 30-odd farmers and their families who participated in the pilot had graduated. The farmers, seen as pioneers of change in potato cultivation, are from the growing regions in north Gujarat.

HyFarm will tap the Paathshala route to collaborate with 30,000 farmers and procure one million tonnes of potatoes by 2028-29, a company statement said.

Over the past season, 30-plus demonstration farms across 17 micro pockets engaged more than 7,000 farmers in immersive, hands-on learning. From soil testing and seed treatment before planting, to balanced nutrition and precision irrigation during the crop cycle and finally to harvest practices that improve quality and reduce losses — every technique was explained, demonstrated and adopted.

Farmers have been able to save up to 40 per cent of water, reduce cost of cultivation by 12-15 per cent and reduce seed use per acre through optimised planting techniques. These gains boosted profitability while also enhancing quality: stronger tubers, higher solid content and fewer undersized and greening potatoes, the release added.

The company is currently engaged in contract farming with approximately 7,500 potato farmers in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, who cultivate the crop on over 30,000 acres and produce more than four lakh tonnes of potatoes. HyFarm recently hosted its first-ever "HyFarm Paathshala Convocation Ceremony" and presented certificates to farmers who had been trained under this initiative.

Haresh Karamchandani, Managing Director & Group CEO of HyFun Foods:

"At HyFarm, our mission is clearly to uplift the quality of life of our partner farmers by strengthening their economics. Paathshala is more than training; it is empowerment, confidence and community building.

By blending traditional wisdom with modern practices Gujarat’s farmers have emerged as champions of change carrying India’s potato story from our soil to global markets. When farmers rise, the nation rises with them."

S. Soundararadjane, CEO of HyFarm:

"This year has shown us the power of small steps. A soil test, precision irrigation, optimal spacing, even the smallest practices add up. Together, they lower costs, improve yields and most importantly, ensure quality.

A farmer’s year-long effort is ultimately measured by quality. When quality rises, so do our farmers. That is the true spirit of Paathshala knowledge that translates directly into results."

A company statement said that the Paathshala is a trusted partner in the farmer’s journey, ensuring every drop of water, every seed, and every rupee delivers greater value. These graduated Paathshala Farmers now return to their villages as ambassadors of modern farming, showing how small changes can spark big transformations.
