The minister of agriculture and water resources, Dr. Sayyadi Abba Ruma has disclosed that Nigeria is the fourth largest potato producer in the Sub-Saharan Africa, saying that potato which is produced mostly in the area of Jos, Plateau state has a rich Source of Carbohydrate with about 60-80 per cent of starch and contain 80 per cent of water.
Dr. Ruma who was speaking at the flag-off and unveiling of International year of potato held in Abuja.
According to him, the flag-off ceremony of the International Year of Potato of 2008 is one of the steps taken by his ministry in an efforts to ensure food self sufficiency in Nigeria.
