Azerbaijan boosts potato exports with modern farming investments and stronger regional trade presence

Potato exports from Azerbaijan surge as the country strengthens its role in the regional agri-food market

Azerbaijan, strategically located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, is steadily strengthening its presence in the regional potato trade. Potatoes are among the country’s key agricultural products, and with growing investments in modern cultivation and storage, exports have gained new momentum in recent years.

From January to July 2025, Azerbaijan exported 70,830 tonnes of potatoes, valued at USD 28.1 million, according to the State Statistics Committee. Compared to the same period in 2024, exports increased by 47% in volume and 37% in value, underlining this upward trend.

Main export destinations (Jan–Jul 2025):

  • Russia: 59,376 t / USD 22.7 m (+40% volume, +24% value)
  • Belarus: 5,693 t / USD 3.15 m (x2.7 volume, x3 value)
  • Ukraine: 4,394 t / USD 1.8 m (+50% volume, +95% value)
  • Georgia: 1,000 t / USD 303,400 (+52% volume, +49% value)
  • Kazakhstan: 214 t / USD 85,400 (x5 in both volume and value)

For comparison, in 2024 Azerbaijan exported 48,345 tonnes of potatoes, of which 88% went to Russia.
