Wedgehut Foods Ltd, based in Ruiru, Kenya, is a fast-growing potato processing company that turns fresh smallholder-produced potatoes into ready‑to‑use products—such as French fries, potato wedges, Lyonnaise potatoes, potato cubes, shredded potatoes, and whole peeled potatoes—helping streamline operations for hotels, restaurants, caterers, hospitals, schools, and domestic users.

The company sources produce from around 400 contract farmers—covering nearly 1,684 acres in both rainfed and irrigated schemes—ensuring reliable, quality raw inputs. With a daily capacity of up to 4 tonnes (expandable to 10 t/day), Wedgehut handles cleaning, starch-removal, peeling, vacuum-packing, and chilled product delivery. 

Founded in 2021 by entrepreneur Wanjiru Mambo, Wedgehut was born out of COVID-era necessity and has since attracted attention for its sustainable business model, emphasis on female empowerment, and strong commitment to farmer welfare. Wedgehut works through programs like Mavuno Zaidi™ in collaboration with Syngenta and other stakeholders, improving agricultural practices, promoting varieties like Shangi, Unica, and Markies, and supporting over 5,000 farmers in sustainability and financial literacy.

Its key product segments focus on potato-based convenience foods—notably fresh-cut fries and wedges—offered in hygienic packaging of 2 kg, 5 kg, and 10 kg sizes. With modest staff now topping 35 people and processing lines equipped for speed and quality, Wedgehut’s competitive edge lies in traceable farmer partnerships, farm-to-fork logistics, and reliable supply to HORECA clients and retailers.

A standout project included scaling from a small 500 sq ft facility with basic peelers to a modern plant at Cape Business Park with industrial-grade peeling and packing equipment—all while maintaining a focus on food safety, timely delivery, and minimizing waste.
